CTWC HOUSTON 2025

Houston is the setting for the first ever Space City Regional, hosted at the University of Houston! Some of the best players in the south make their way to this event to showcase their skills and prove why Texas is the home of Tetris champions!

The $20 entry fee also contributes to paying the university for letting us use their space/resources and to let them house our event, so please do not skip this step!!! That’s $20 per tournament, $40 in total if you want to enter both

Qualifiers will be using the Classic Tetris Wars format founded by valued community member Grand Designs!

The qual format for both tournaments will feature this format but each qualifier will use a different point system

OPEN TOURNAMENT QUALIFIER FORMAT

  • This will be the regular CTW format
  • Level 39 cap, 90 minutes (once time runs out, you cannot start a new game)
  • Every game you play that scores a maxout or above will be awarded a certain number of points
  • 1,000,000-1,099,999: 2 points
  • 1,100,000-1,199,999: 3 points
  • etc.

DAS TOURNAMENT QUALIFIER FORMAT

  • This will feature a modified CTW qual format
  • Same cap and time limit
  • Every game you play that scores a 600k or above will be awarded a certain number of points,

Once your qualifier is done, there will be two fields to submit your score into:
Points: Your point total from all games you’ve played (please do your best to be correct, but we’ll check everything and correct any errors)
Highest Score: Your highest score from the session (This will determine tiebreakers in seeding) There will also be a comments box that you can also list your scores into after your qualifier ends, helps us verify your scores

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE FOR SPACE CITY

Saturday, August 16

9:30 am – Setup begins! IF YOU ARE BRINGING EQUIPMENT – BE ON CAMPUS BY THIS TIME! Below is a graphic of where people should be parking as the Welcome Center Garage is close by the venue. The intersection at the bottom right is MLK Blvd and University Dr.

Payment is through credit card. $10 for the whole day for Saturday/Sunday. Use the ⁠let-me-in channel in our Discord to coordinate who’s arriving and who needs to be let in the building as we are operating before the center officially opens.
12:00pm – Start of Day! Potentially a qualifying session for any passersby that want to check the place out or for anyone who couldn’t online qualify
2:00pm – Open Bracket starts! Depending on how many people can show up, this will be either a 16 or 24 player single elimination
8-9pm – Expected end of bracket. Depending on what the college situation is, we either can leave the setups there on the table or we would need help bring the supplies to a storage closet nearby.
10pm – Potential afterparty at the downstairs games room

Sunday, August 17

12pm – Start of Day! DAS in-person qualifier will begin in 15-30 minutes once doors open
2pm – DAS qualifying ends and start of tournament begins after 10-15 minutes
6-7pm – Expected end of tournament. Depending on how many people qualify for it and start of breakdown
8pm – Expected start of afterparty at Brass Tacks or another location
